The Drake (Shown above in gray) is a six story, 31,000 SF, mixed use commercial building located in Athens, GA overlooking the University of Georgia. The project would consist of 13 residences, a fitness center, a private rooftop club for owners and ground-floor commercial space, according to developer CollegeTown Properties.
Horton Design Group was engaged by Georgia Drywall, LLC to provide Cold-Formed Steel Engineering Services for the project. The structure consists of cold formed metal floor and roof trusses supported by cold formed metal load bearing walls studs. Trusses were spaced at 24” o.c. to align with wall studs for direct load transfer from the roof to Level 2 podium. A lateral force resisting system utilized CMU stairs and elevator walls.
"This was an ideal project for our firm because of our extensive experience with Cold-Steel Engineering for mixed use projects like this," said Everett Horton, PE, Principal at Horton Design Group.
